AYT Foods Ltd, Fife first African-Caribbean grocery store, has been named the Regional Consumer Products Start-Up of the Year (Scotland) at the 2025 Scotland StartUp Awards.
The award recognises outstanding new businesses that are redefining industries and making a lasting impact within their communities. AYT Foods, founded by Temitope Ajayi-Salami, stood out for its innovation in retail, commitment to cultural representation, and community-driven approach to business.
Launched in December 2023, AYT Foods has transformed access to authentic African and Caribbean groceries in Fife and beyond. The company was born out of a desire to help families reconnect with familiar tastes, bridging cultures through food and community engagement.
“Winning this award was both humbling and affirming,” said Temitope Ajayi-Salami, Founder and Director of AYT Foods. “What began as a small dream to bring authentic African and Caribbean foods to local families has grown into something much bigger — a movement of culture, pride, and togetherness. This recognition is for every customer, supplier, and community member who has supported AYT Foods since day one.”
The win marks a major milestone for AYT Foods, setting the stage for the brand’s continued growth and impact across Scotland. Following this regional achievement, AYT Foods went on to win the UK National Consumer Products Start-Up of the Year 2025, further solidifying its position as a leading voice in the UK food retail space.
“This is proof that local businesses in Fife can make a national impact,” Ajayi-Salami added. “We are proud to represent our community on such a meaningful platform.”
